Rotting your teeth, the tasty way

For the last few days I've been making myself a breakfast that my mom calls Belgian Pancakes, looking around on Google, these may just be Crepes but that is not the point.

After I've put a pot of water on for my coffee I put a cast iron skillet on the stove, while that is heating up I crack two eggs into a bowl and add some half and half or cream (whatever is on hand, milk should work, but I don't drink milk). After beating these with a whisk I sift in a heaping spoon full of flower and whisk that in, I then add another and repeat.

By this time the skillet should be nice a hot, so I'll throw in a large pad of butter and poor in the batter. At this point I will put some real maple syrup into the microwave. After a minute or two on the stove I'll put the skillet into the oven (on a lower rack) and turn on the broiler. It's best to put an oven safe plate on the rack below the skillet (under the skillet so it doesn't get too hot) After a little while the pancake will puff up, pull it out when the broiler just starts to brown the tops.

After taking it and the plate out I'll sprinkle some powdered sugar on top and put on the syrup. It is amazing.

What have I been up to?

Wow, it's really sad how little I have been posting on my own website. I don't know if anyone keeps up with this site but I'd really like keep it a bit more up to date, even if it's just hooking up my Twitter stream, but I'm sure I can do a bit more then that.

Currently I have put the last three months into the Bricks in Motion film directory, it was a really ambitious project but the site members seem very exited about. There is one minor problem though, all films must be approved by a volunteer staff and the directory has only been out a week and there is currently a queue of over 90 unapproved films, it does not help that most of the reviewers have school finals right now. If you've never read a highbrow review of a LEGO film I recommend checking out Ross Pearson's review of Onorno.

A lot has been going on in my life and it looks like I'm going to move over to Seattle on the 26th of June. There is about a 95% chance of me moving in with my brother Greg, it wasn't originally the plan but it seems like the best option for both of us, I know I don't want to deal with roommates that have inferior music tastes or insist on having TV and Greg would like complete control of the kitchen. The goal is turn our place into a place we can host elitist dinner parties that end with board games or obscure high brow films. Right now Greg is hosting dinners twice a month at Cydonia which is a real mess thanks to all the junk Webster and others won't just toss.

I'm looking for a second job, I'm going to be able to keep my current programing job but it's only part time and I'll have to live very cheaply if I don't get something else. I have applied to a freelance agency which looks like it would be a perfect fit, but we'll see.

When I move over to Seattle and figure out the whole job situation I would love to shoot some live action films, if I could get a group of people together and regularly do small projects I would be a happy man, Robert Mason has a huge library of lies which he would love to see turned into shorts and I think it would be both fun and challenging to make a short dramatic micro sketches.

I think I am going to remove the 'Blog' tab and keep all my posts an thoughts on the front page.

Light modding

I recently got my first professional movie light, it is a used Mole-Richardson 200 watt Solarspot. While the light has seen better days the only problems with it are cosmetic and I got it on Ebay for about 1/3 of the retail price so I was happy.

200W Mole Solarspot with barn door

After I got the light I made an order with B&H which included a spare bulb along with a four leaf barn door for the light, I check the number of the light and got the correct barn door but when my order arrived I realized that the gel holders on my light had been changed, and much to by dismay the barn door could not be attached.

In order to make it work I added on three little aluminum corners to the existing gel holder, now the barn door fits well and you wouldn't even know it was modded unless you looked close.

Feats of Strength

I had an idea but it was AWFUL

A month or so ago Robert and I entered a comic over at Scary-Go-Round. Our comic was one of 14 finalists, and has been featured on the main page.

If you are from SGR, welcome! Please check out the movies I've made. John Allison described 'The Haiku Menace' as "...a short film specially designed to delight"* Be sure to check out Robert's micro-fiction blog here. I also have the entry Robert and I submitted for the 2006 Scary Go Round contest here.

Everything starts somewhere

If anyone wonders how the comic came from this humble start to its current glory, I made a behind the scenes page which goes over all the gory details.
